Trees   Birds   Insects
----------------------------------------
The University Park neighborhood is great place to witness nature. There are parks and a bike trail, heritage trees, an assortment of wildlife (especially birds) and many residential gardens. Because of the neighborhoods' location between the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and close to Smith and Bybee Lakes we have a large amount of bird activity.
If you have photos of an unusual bird or animal sighting, please email website@universityparkneighbors.org.

Trees:
There are 15 Heritage Trees in North Portland, 2 are in the University Park neighborhood. Both of the trees in our neighborhood are Oregon White Oaks. The tree section has maps, a list of the trees, their exact locations and photos.

Birds:
University Park sees more than just the common finch thanks to our location. We are in the migration path of the Canada goose and often hear their honking at dusk. Great Blue Herons and Kingfishers also fly over en route between the rivers. A Coopers Hawk has also been observed hunting for small birds in a residents yard. The occasional goldfinch is a highlight for local bird feeders and their watchers. Check out the bird page to see photos.

Insects:
You might not think much of the insects in your yard but many are very beneficial to plants and other animals. And we are home to a wide variety of amazing insects, some of which we're not sure what they are! Check out the insect page to see some of the unusual insects.

Warning! If you feed the animals in the neighborhood you are also feeding raccoons.
